F8F Restoration From The Ground Up!

After almost 30 years of nearly continuous, reliable service, it was time to give their Grumman F8F Bearcat some much-needed TLC. These 30 years of airshow flying duty and regular maintenance activities also saw a complete engine change to a slightly different version of the Pratt & Whitney R-2800 radial engine. On Saturday, March 26th, the Commemorative Air Force’s Southern California Wing will conduct a presentation on the extensive restoration effort. Hear discussions on the planning, disassembly, and game plan for the reassembly of this high-performance warbird. See and touch displays of this vaunted aircraft’s myriad of pieces and parts. Other iconic aircraft from World War II, most in flyable condition, will also be on display, including a Spitfire, a real Zero, and the F6F Hellcat.
Mark your calendars to enter the world of complex, detailed, and exhaustive aircraft maintenance.
After the event, their docents will be available to answer questions about the exhibits and offer guided tours of their museum. Light refreshments will be available during the event. Don’t forget to ask about their Warbird Ride Program. Experience what it was like to fly in a Warbird back in the day.
