Canvas of Camarillo: A Mural of Art, History & Community
Our new vibrant mural is a collaboration between Visit Camarillo and Camarillo Premium Outlets, beautifully capturing the city’s unique character and rich heritage. At its heart is the legendary Camarillo White Horse, a rare breed native to the area, symbolizing the legacy of Adolfo Camarillo, the ‘Last Spanish Don’ and namesake of the city. Also featured is the historic Camarillo Ranch House, a stunning Queen Anne Victorian estate that now serves as a museum and popular event venue. The Bougainvillea Fiesta further enhances the mural, Camarillo’s official flower, which flourishes across the city. With over 300 days of sunshine and a refreshing coastal breeze, this artwork reflects the essence of Camarillo’s idyllic climate. Brought to life by local artists Bailey Huerta and Aihuani Joedicker, this mural celebrates the spirit of Camarillo, offering both locals and visitors a glimpse into the city’s past and present. Local history and important figures
Adolfo Camarillo, born on October 28, 1864, took over his family’s nearly 10,000-acre Rancho Calleguas at just 16 after his father’s passing. He transformed the cattle ranch into a thriving agricultural business, cultivating crops like lima beans, walnuts, and citrus. In 1910, Adolfo and his brother Juan helped establish the town of Camarillo around St. Mary Magdalen Chapel. Though the city of Camarillo wasn’t officially incorporated until 1964, years after Adolfo’s passing at age 94, his legacy lives on. That same year, the city celebrated its first Camarillo Fiesta, marking Adolfo’s birthday on October 28 and the city’s on October 29. Today, the influence of early rancheros is still visible in the Spanish architecture of Camarillo Old Town and St. Mary Magdalen Chapel. In 1921, Adolfo Camarillo purchased a bright white stallion Sultan at the Sacramento State Fair for $500. Sultan, known for his solid limbs and arched neck, was bred with Morgan mares to create the rare Camarillo White Horses. These unique horses with pure white coats and pink skin, caused by a genetic mutation, gained fame through parades and performances across California, even being ridden by figures like President Harding and Ronald Reagan. Today, only 17 remain in Ventura County, with a few more in Los Angeles and Oregon, making them one of the rarest horse breeds in the world.
The Camarillo Ranch, once owned by prominent landowner Adolfo Camarillo, features a stunning Queen Anne-style mansion built in 1892 for his bride, Isabel. Designed by architects Herman Anlauf and Franklin Ward, the three-story Victorian home boasts intricate woodwork, a wrap-around porch, a veranda, and a historic red barn, all set against the backdrop of the Conejo Mountains. After a major restoration between 1999 and 2001, the mansion became a museum, hosting community events and educational programs. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003

Camarillo’s official flower, the Bougainvillea Fiesta, is a vibrant and hardy plant with paper-like bracts. A climbing plant that can be found adorning fences, walls, and trellises, adding shades of pink, purple, and even orange to our local neighborhoods, is perfect for Camarillo as it thrives in warmer climates.
Camarillo boasts an ideal Mediterranean climate, offering visitors over 300 days of sunshine each year. With mild, pleasant temperatures ranging from the 60s to 80s, the city enjoys cool coastal breezes that create comfortable conditions year-round. Summers are warm but rarely too hot, thanks to its proximity to the Pacific Ocean, while winters remain mild with little rain.

ABOUT THE MURALIST
Aihuani Joedicker
Aihuani Joedicker was born in Mexico City, where she spent most of her childhood. At the age of 8, her family moved to Querétaro, where she lived for the next 18 years until she fell in love with an American and relocated to the USA. Since then, she has built her life in Camarillo, where she lives with her husband and their two children.
Aihuani has always been passionate about the arts, particularly the visual arts, and has been painting and doodling since childhood. She graduated as a Professional Graphic Artist from a college in Querétaro and took art classes both in Mexico and at Moorpark College. However, it wasn’t until she became a mother that she discovered her love for face painting, a passion ignited by her children.
Though she never envisioned herself as an entrepreneur, her journey led her to create Doodle Faces, a business that has thrived for over a decade. What began as a face painting business has grown to encompass a variety of artistic services. Aihuani has painted murals for schools, businesses, and private homes across Ventura and LA counties, along with commissioned artwork and seasonal or year-round window art. She takes great pride in helping others with their creative needs and finds immense joy in her work, hoping others enjoy it as much as she does creating it.
Grateful for the opportunity to do what she loves, Aihuani knows how fortunate she is to live her passion daily.
