Plan an aviation-themed vacation in Camarillo

It doesn’t matter if it’s for the first or the fiftieth time, watching a plane rocket into the sky never gets old. Neither does the feeling of gliding above the ground in an open aircraft. Camarillo is your destination for enjoying all things aviation, from air shows to flying in a WWII bomber! Here are just a few attractions to choose from on your next trip.

Go to Wings Over Camarillo

Keep your eyes on the skies! The 42nd annual Wings Over Camarillo Air Show is set for Aug. 19 and 20. This popular community event is an old-time barnstorming air show crossed with a family-friendly party. People of all ages will get a thrill from seeing historic and specialty aircraft perform, airborne pyrotechnics, and parachute teams jumping in formation. Get your tickets, including VIP seats and parking, at www.wingsovercamarillo.com/tickets.

See vintage aircrafts at the Commemorative Air Force Museum

Bombers, transport aircrafts, and monoplanes. See all three and more at the Commemorative Air Force Museum’s Southern California Wing (called CAFSoCal for short). In addition to planes, the museum also has unique historical items on display, such as photos, uniforms, weapons and other equipment. This is a great opportunity for a multi-generational vacation with the kids and grandparents. And if you’re 12 or older, you can even go for a plane ride!

Air Force One at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Museum

Get your picture taken on Air Force One at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Museum located 25 minutes from Camarillo. The plane on permanent display at the museum flew President Reagan over 660,000 miles to 26 countries and 46 U.S. states. It’s where he wrote many of his speeches, signed important legislation, and even started the Daytona Beach NASCAR race by phone!

Skydive or take a ride on an Ultralight

Fly through the wild blue yonder with Skydive Coastal California or Skyrider Ultralights, both located just five minutes off Highway 101 at the Camarillo Airport. Skydive Coastal California offers tandem jumps from two miles high in the sky for up to 60 seconds of freefall. Skyrider Ultralights offers light sport aircraft that cruises “low and slow” over land and sea. Both activities promise breathtaking views of the mountains, ocean, and nearby Channel Islands.

Dine at the airport

Enjoy a pre- or post-flight meal at the Waypoint Cafe, where you can watch planes take off and land while you dine! Stop by for champagne brunch, juicy burgers and creamy milkshakes, or a three-course dinner of fusion creations. An added bonus: The cafe’s outdoor patio is dog-friendly!
