Take a short drive to one of the gorgeous beaches located near Camarillo to relax in the sun and enjoy the peaceful sound of the waves lapping against the shore. Point Mugu Beach is only 10 miles from Camarillo, and offers a beautiful, scenic spot to swim, surf, fish, body surf, or sit back and relax on shore. The beach is part of the larger Point Mugu State Park, which offers plenty of opportunity for adventure within its five sprawling miles of rocky bluffs, sandy beaches and dunes, rugged hills, and majestic river canyons. There are also upwards of 70 miles of hiking and biking trails to explore, along with areas for camping, fishing, wildlife viewing, and more!

Learn Something New

Camarillo is well-known for having some of the most unique, interesting museums around; whether you’re into aviation, military history, science, or local lore, there’s guaranteed to be a museum that piques your interest. Make a day of it and learn something new!

The first museum on our list is the Commemorative Air Force (CAFSoCal) WWII Aviation Museum, a fascinating museum boasting a variety of real combat aircraft, on top of an impressive collection of authentic memorabilia and artifacts. Children and adults alike will be absolutely amazed as they stroll through the airplane hangars that make up the museum, experiencing the sheer size and power of the aircraft— some of which you can even enter and/or walk through. The CAF also offers aircraft rides in actual WWII planes! Take to the skies in a real Warbird and experience flight on a whole new level. Don’t forget to stop by the gift shop on your way out to pick up a souvenir and support this all-volunteer organization!

Another favorite museum is actually a beautiful Victorian ranch home, built by the Camarillo family way back in 1892— yes, THAT Camarillo family! Take a fascinating docent-led tour of the meticulously restored mansion, complete with 12-foot ceilings, intricate interior woodwork, and authentic furniture from the time period, all of which was donated by the community. Your knowledgeable docent will take you through every gorgeously-decorated room, each one complete with stories about their inhabitants. Don’t forget to take a minute to stop outside and enjoy the incredible view of the front lawn, gardens, and historic red barn.
